Fried Day 5

I've got like maybe 5 minutes at work to sneak in a relevant weekend post...

so here goes...

I think I'll stick with the friday 5 concept and link ya up with 5 cool summertime tracks for ya...

Here's a mellow morning jazzy groover from Hard Hands, the late great conga king of NY kickin' down some Gershwinized latin rhythms for y'all

Ray Barretto - Summertime

Another groove laden track tellin' it like it is from the reigning rock n roll hall of famer & genuine gentleman pianist from New Orleans. This one is one from a 1978 solo release that came out on Warner Bros. He'll be performing at a big Katrina Relief event at the New Orleans Arena for a big benefit concert next week, and I know a French girl who gets to go... and darn, despite the sticky heat down there, I'm so jealous...

Allen Toussaint - The Optimism Blues

From Jon Langford's latest release, his first solo project on ROIR, Neil Cooper's once cassette only label. Langford unleashes his usual quality songwriting, with a few choice covers. An unlikely Welsh hero of the so-called "Americana" movement, Langford who started the Mekons a couple decades ago should need no introduction to fans of real indie rock. His latest release is called Gold Brick and is subtitled "Lies of The Great Explorers, or Colombus at Gunatanamo Bay". I know I've heard this song before, likely on one of The Waco Bros releases on Bloodshot, but here it is presented in a more muted, but equally dramatic and well done version.

Jon Langford - Anything Can Happen

Taking it back to the west coast, local Mission district denizen and electro funk bad boy Gold Chains kicks down the closest thing I think he's done to a hit.

Gold Chains - California Nights

Chocolate Watchband - I'm Not Like Everybody Else

One of my adopted theme songs wriiten by Mr. Ray Davies done by some garage punk bad boys back in the late 60's...

well that's 5 mp3'z for ya

here's a couple other things ya can today if yer bored and have the bandwidth...

Today is the start of the three day Lollapalooza concert in Chicago...and it's being webcast and streamed live...way cheaper than heading to Chicago eh?
