Didja Know ?

Random Revelations for ya:

Didja know in the Dallas-Fort Worth TX metro area alone, there are 21 high school football stadiums that seat 10,000 or more.

Didja know that the Pittsburgh Steelers only have their logo on one side of their helmets because the equipment manager got tired and only wanted to do one side. It became a novelty, and is a tradition to this day.

Hey didja know sending an email that could "annoy" is now a federal crime ... yep turns out that cancer laden windbag Arlen Specter got us a law about that now. Saw this news via the so deep & thick it's dangerous WFMU website...

A guy named Declan McCullagh's wrote an article article, Create an e-annoyance, go to jail, that quotes the relevant language he found:
"Whoever...utilizes any device or software that can be used to originate telecommunications or other types of communications that are transmitted, in whole or in part, by the Internet... without disclosing his identity and with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any person...who receives the communications...shall be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than two years, or both."

Didja know that the world's first telegram was sent on May 24, 1844 by it's inventor Samuel Morse. His message, "What hath God wrought," was transmitted in a crudely digital code from Washington DC to Baltimore.

oh, and didja know that Western Union has stopped sending telegrams after 145 years... if you wanna know what a telegram is you instant messaging fiend ... Google it up kiddo...

Speaking of Google, the internet giant with market valuation of approx 130 billion, couldn't find a staffer from their 5000 or so to attend the Congressional Human Rights Caucus lasterday in DC... Also refusing to show up were Yahoo, Microsoft & Cisco. Said irked Republican Congressman Lantos who presides over the district where many of Google's multi-millionaires reside "These massively successful high-tech companies, which couldn't bring themselves to send their representatives to this meeting today, should be ashamed,''.

Google's current absurd market valuation ( about half of software king Microsoft) ironically now surpasses that of Intel, making them the 2nd largest valued tech company. Now without Intel's chips on whom their technology runs, it be hard to imagine why anyone would need any Google at all.

I found a cool website called Show And Tell Music that has lots of classic exotica style album covers from the 50s & 60s... So many groovy space age bachelor pad rarities in one place, it's like being in tiki heaven's Thrift Store...here's a sample

Chaino and His African Percussion Safari - The Jungle Chase

anyhow, not only is the guy jam packing the web with cool LP's , he's even reissuing some of these gems on his own label, and helping out this coy coquettish Bay Area folk duo called the Pillows....

Pillows - Quick Fix ( from debut on ShowAndTellMusic.com )

Speaking of local bands, these local guys were playing at Amoeba the other day when I was there, but I had stuff to do... so I left...here maybe you'll enjoy em more than me...

Rogue Wave - Salesman At The Day Of The Parade

Now here's a local Bay Area band that I always dug, always had a good time with at Bar BQ's and Bars, and wouldn't pass up a chance to catch again if they'd give it another go around... Jawbreaker

Sluttering is from the Dear You album that came out on DGC shortly after the band toured with Nirvana for a spell, it recently was reissued by the drummer's label Blackball...Save Your Generation was on the same record, but this is a live version recorded at one of their last shows in Seattle circa May 1996... Kiss The Bottle is from a board tape from a 1993 gig at CBGB, the song immortalizes my neighborhood stomping grounds and where all of us get liquored up way too much, and has long been one of my heartbreaking faves... I recently heard the Foo Fighters covered it as a B-side...

and lastly, Into You Like A Train, hey I think it's a Psychedelic Furs cover...go figger
