My Monday & Likely Midweek Melange ...

Hey ...
it's a fine San Francisco spring day, and I'm down in the belly o' that beast there somewhere...

I'm fully ensconsed in a fairly arduous work week and I doubt I'll be able to keep pumping out the posts, so enjoy my Monday afternoon mix for as long as it takes me to get back to ya'll.

If yer looking for me in person, I'll be in the bowels of the Moscone Convention Center, wearing all black & my chip embedded nametag badge ...being as helpful & informative from 8 am until 8 pm as I possibly can, as the Java One gathering takes over the joint for a week...

Meal breaks will likely be spent in the employee lounge next to the soda machine somewhere south of the subterranean shipping docks...

see ya there

in the meantime, here's some tunes

enjoy & get lost ...

this song was always a favorite of mine since elementary school when I firsat heard the Bay City Rollers sweetly tearing it up, of course I later found out that Dusty Springfield had done it first.

Me First & The Gimme Gimmes - I Only Wanna Be With You

here's another cover tune, originally by Slade, the U.K's plaid wearing heavy sideburned glam pioneers. This is a song that was pummeled into submission and onto radio & MTV by one of the early 80's most desperate for a hit L.A metal bands, Quiet Riot.

Here's the 9 minute extended mix...uh, why 9 minutes you ask?

I don't know either...ask that bald Mutha f*cker Kevin DuBrow if you wanna know... or maybe his buddy Carlos. I can't figure it out by myself, cuz there's not even a really funky disco break or anything...hmmmm

Quiet Riot - Cum On Feel The Noize

While I myself recall Quite Riot's glory daze in the summer of 1983, before baldspots appeared like holes in their personal ozone layer, and a distinct lack of of ability to write their own material doomed them...

For me that year belonged far more to some pasty post-disco dudes from manchester, that being New Order...

here's an updated twist on a classic from their early 80's period, before they uh, started to swallow their own hype...

New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle - McNasty Mix

In the wake of the success stateside of Gogol Bordello, is it not time for more Eastern European style musicas to infilitrate? Apparently it's been happening, just no one tells me these things, I randomly came across the Balkan Beats scene in Berlin , where there's a gypsy sorta mash up mixed by Viennese DJ Dunkelbunt I'll feature below.

DJ Dunkelbunt - Asphalt Tango Remix

Dunkelbunt has his own site and has a club night called Balkan Hot Step in Vienna highlighting electronic klezmer & modern gypsy music. He's influenced by the orient, the wind, and a variety of world music influences.

DJ Dunkelbunt - Chocolate Butterfly w/ Raf MC & Fanfare Ciocarlia

DJ Dunkelbunt & Amsterdam Klezmer Band - La Revedere

If ya would like to see a video of a Balkan Beats tour with soundtrack from MAGNIFICO & TURBOLENTZA on a trip to Cali & NYC in Jan 2005 , click here. The online HQ has info on various rhythmically charged groups that just may be of Turkish, Bulgarian, Serbian, Slovenian, Macedonian, Croatian and other heritages all ripe for yer appreciation. Check out the the demographically diverse dancefloor ready Balkan Beats CD compilation at http://www.balkanbeats.de/cdinfoeng.htm

A Scottish based favorite of Belle & Sebastian's Stuart Murdoch, Camera Obscura hails from Glasgow and this is the lead track from their latest album, with vocals courtesy Ms Tracyanne Campbell .

Camera Obscura - Let's Get Out Of This Country

now for some YouSendIt external linkages

The songwriting team of Difford & Tillbrook churned out many a mini masterpiece during their initial run fronting Squeeze. Just because VH1 couldn't get them to reunite with Jools Holland doesn't mean you can't still dig the tunes.... Be sure to pick up their Singles 45 & under collection...It Simply Rules, and is a record I never tire of singing along with on road trips....

Of course it features this cut on it...

Squeeze - Cool for Cats

Southern Rock never reallly went away, in fact it just slid so far south at one point, that it melted like a popsicle on a summer sidewalk...

Marshall Tucker Band had one such sweet syrupy concoction that dripped down their legs, and all the way onto the radio that may even still be getting airplay today in some Texas mini mart...

Somehow, with a sea of tube topped gals & confederate flags a flyin' away and a Georgia peanut farmer as president, it even became acceptable to have a pop hit with a song that is more Eagles than Skynyrd. The royalties likely carried the band through many lean winters, and I'm sure they still play some festivals at dirt track speedways & shady casinos below the Mason-Dixon line

The Marshall Tucker Band - Heard It In A Love Song

now days down south of course it's uh, dirty ... not dirthead

and in the ATL guys like Lil Jon are outselling cracker rock bands by far, here's a collab laid down in the lab with some other big names in their respective sub-genres...

Lil Jon w/ E40 + Sean Paul - Snap Ya Fingers

and here's one more hyphy lil number that's been way big out here in the bay

E 40 w/ Keak Da Sneak - Tell Me When To Go

that's all fer now you hillbillies...

I gotta degauss some old tape stock, get some dinner & go go go...

9 minutes of Cum on Feel the Noise? Wouldn't that be "Prog-Glam"?
